Alex has been working in the entertainment industry for 15 years, mostly on a freelance basis and has experience in all aspects of performance lighting, including concert touring, corporate, exhibition, theatre, dance, installation and architectural.  Roles in this time have been many and varied, including many positions of responsibility such as Lighting Designer, Programmer/Operator, Crew Chief, Dimmer/mains man and Chief Electrician.

Coming originally from a theatre background, Alex acquired a number of valuable stagecraft skills as well as a performance-based approach to all areas of the industry.  He served for 18 months as Chief Electrician at the Peacock Theatre in London before moving on into corporate and later concert and television environments.  Alex now tries to undertake a healthy mix of all types of work, which helps to bring fresh ideas and concepts from one area to another.  This is also a very effective way of maintaining a keen interest in every project.

Alex has extensive experience of touring, initially with large scale classical and contemporary dance productions, and latterly with a variety of concert tours.  These have taken him to most continents and from this has gained an invaluable experience of working with people of many different cultures, languages and work practices.

Alex holds an electrical engineering degree, and is a qualified electrician.  Professional memberships include The Institution Of Electrical Engineers (IET), Production Services Association (PSA) and BECTU.

Outside the entertainment world, Alex has recently become involved in the rebuild of EDSAC, one of the earliest programmable computers in this country. The project is based at the National Museum of Computing in Bletchley Park, but consists of contributors from as far afield as Australia! Alex is pleased to be able to bring his skills as a wireman and his knowledge of modern mains distribution methods to the project. More info about EDSAC Here
